Another Week in Review

The weeks are FLYING by and I just can't seem to keep up with the blogging world!!  This is what we've been up to this week.

I know, the election is over but students did vote!!  The results were tallied and President Obama won.  The kids also voted on what type of pet the president should have.  A dog was the clear winner!

Our Mini-Lesson for writing has been, "Good writers write bold beginnings."  The kids were introduced to Question Leads and Snapshot Leads.

Students practiced writing each in their Writer's Notebooks.  They found a narrative and used a Post-It to create each type of lead.  Here are a few examples.

We also focused on veterans and Veterans Day.  The kids listened to read alouds and listed characteristics of a veteran.  Job's dad came in to talk to the class.  Students were quite excited to have him here today!!

On Friday afternoon we had a Veteran Day Celebration.  The kindergarteners planned and prepared a celebration honoring veterans, police officers, and firefighters.

During the celebration Skype was used to ask Troy Johnston questions about his job as a soldier and daily routine.

Remember to thank a veteran for his/her service!!
