Bats and Owls

We finished up learning about bats and owls by creating a venn diagram.  Students created a bat and owl to add to our bulletin board outside our room!

Lots of Randomness

We finished up learning about bats and owls by completing a Venn Diagram.

After reading Owl Babies, they made their very own.  There were constant "Ohhs" and "Aahhs" as they were being made.  They are quite adorable and many wanted to take them home that day!!

We also completed a Halloween narrative together.  We spent the week brainstorming, creating, and illustrating our big book.  They created the story and I transcribed it to larger drawing paper. Students even shared it Friday during lunch.  I'll post the completed book next week.  It's quite an exciting story about us going Trick or Treating together and going into a haunted house.  Scary, I know!!

Harvests Arts Festival was a HUGE success!!  We listened to the middle school band in the morning and also a few University of Maine performers in the afternoon.  Olivia's mom came in to teach us more about her job as a cake decorator.  She showed many tips and tricks!! Students were then able to create their very own pumpkin cookie using frosting and sprinkles.  Nothing like A LOT of sugar on Halloween!!  They had so much fun learning and eating.

And last but not least, PTC is having an auction this year!!  They've asked teachers to complete a piece of art with their students.  Who wouldn't  a piece of artwork made from kids hanging up in their house?

Friday was the perfect day to create some art.  Each student made a heart to add to canvas I had painted gray.  Here's our finished work!! More details to come on when it will begin.

Here's the other piece we made.

Did You Know Bats Can Swim?

We've been learning a lot about bats!!  After listening to read alouds the kiddos filled in Bats Can, Have, Are.

We wrote the definition of a diagram and the kids helped me label my diagram.  Then they went to work in their Science Notebooks creating their own diagrams!

I LOVE how one student even took the time to make dots on each letter in claw.  He told me I'm always writing fancy so he wanted his word to look the same!  Too cute.

Here's our Venn Digram on Owls Vs. Bats.

Bats

Today we began learning about bats.  We talked about our schema and wrote down on Post-Its what we already knew.

Kids will continue to listen to read alouds, will make a diagram, and write 3 new facts.
