The Beginning of Our First Full Week

Meet Roland!!

Today I introduced "Read to Buddy."  It has been such a smooth transition and my kiddos know the expectations coming into first grade.  Our kindergarten teachers work SO hard to get them ready for first grade.

Camping in Our Room This Week

This week we'll be completing camping activities during Daily 5.  I also uploaded them to my TpT Store.  I added the teepee I made, some pillows, and a mat.

The biggest hit was fishing for addition facts!!  Check back in to see what else we do while camping out in our room.

This Makes My Heart Melt

An option during Daily 5 writing is 5 on a List.  The kids have to write 5 items that go with the topic given.  One was 5 Things You Need at School.

Of course you need a desk, books, pencil, and crayolas...but wait, what does the last one say?  Mrs. Lyons, right?  This made my heart melt!

I'm not sure if he was thinking literally he needed me to teach or if this was a heartfelt gesture.  I'm going with the second one!!

Noun Review

Before break we worked with nouns.  Kids created Noun Town and were searching for them in their books.

During Daily 5 (read to self or read to buddy), kids will be searching their books for nouns and adding them to our Noun Poster.  Heres's the work they did today.

Kiss Your Brain!!

Today we kissed our brains!!  We've been building stamina for reading to self.  Kids read for 15 solid minutes with no interruptions.  So exciting!!  Tomorrow I'll be introducing read to a buddy.  Here are some pics of the kids reading.

They've learned you can read the words, the pictures, and retell the story.  We've also discussed our class library and how it's set up.  Students talked about what types of books they pick and how to make good choices.
