Happy St. Patrick's Day

We have been busy this week completing some Leprechaun activities.  Students created WANTED signs and we posted them around our school!

We also did some How To writing.  Students wrote how they'd catch one.

And of course to top it off, we drank DE-licious Shamrock Shakes!  I continually got thumbs up for how good they tasted.

On Monday, we'll check our trap and see if we were lucky enough to catch one!

St. Patty's Day Recap

Here's a quick recap of our day Friday.

Students wrote about when they feel lucky on colored construction paper and added them to a pot of gold.

They also designed a Leprechaun trap before I showed them the one I use every year.

In order to enjoy those delicious Shamrock Shakes we did some How to Writing.

Here are a couple of guys dressed for the day.

And of course we set our trap but that sneaky leprechaun got away. At least he left a note and some of his treasure.

To end the day we met up with Clifford.  Our book fair is currently going on and he made his rounds visiting classrooms.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Lucky Leprechaun visited us today and left quite a mess.  He wrote all over my morning message with green marker, left shamrocks on the floor, and some how got out of the trap we set.  He did leave behind a note and some treasures.

I captured Ayva's reaction just as the box was lifted.  Priceless.

I had one student set up his own trap before he left school Wednesday but Lucky was able to even escape his.

We wrote directions on how to make a shamrock shake.  This afternoon we enjoyed some leprechaun activities and some DE-licious shakes.

Of course I have no pictures of the shakes because I was tending to the blender and making them for 3 first grade classes.

This week students created WANTED Signs and we hung them up around school.  I love how unique each leprechaun is.

They also completed some rainbow writing.  Students learned what a simile is and wrote some sentences.

Students completed writing on what makes them special.  Here are some examples.

Hope you had a great St. Paddy's Day!!

That Sneaky Leprechaun Got My Class Again

We did A LOT of work last week with leprechauns.  After many read alouds, students designed their own traps.

We posted some "WANTED" signs around our school and made these cute 3D leprechauns.

Of course we set a trap to see if we could catch one.  Of course Lucky Leprechaun managed to escape but he shared some of his treasure!

We also learned about similes.  The book below is how I always introduce them.

Then working on large paper, we list all the colors of the rainbow and objects that fit into each category.  This gave students a list to work with when they went to writing.

Here are a few examples!

And of course St. Patrick's Day isn't complete without Shamrock Shakes.  We did informational writing on "How to Make a Shamrock Shake."  The kids enjoyed them after lunch!  Of course all I heard was they were the BEST shakes ever.  Look what a bit of ice cream, milk, and green food coloring can do!

We hope you were feeling LUCKY on St. Patrick's Day!!

And why not end this post with a FUNNY picture!!  Yes, I came upon this at the end of the day last week.

Yes, that's a teacher in a box.  I couldn't stop laughing.  She's quite a funny lady and I believe she was proving a point...that she could indeed fit in a box.

Lucky Leprechaun, Green Staches, and Shamrock Shakes

Where did the days go of just wearing green on St. Patrick's Day?  I tend to do a bit more because I know these are some of the memories kiddos remember of school.

These would be the three topics today my students would want me to share with you!!

We set a trap on Friday hoping to catch the sneaky leprechaun who was leaving coins and shamrocks in our room.

This is how the trap looked Friday afternoon.

We lifted the trap today and the kids couldn't believe HOW MUCH the leprechaun left behind.  Jocelyn read the note he left.  Lucky Leprechaun was quite impressed with the trap but he ate the marshmallows and found a way to escape!

Next up...GREEN STACHES!!  These were a hit and I will admit I even wore one for a bit.  Here are some CANDID pics of the kiddos.

Last up...we did some How To Writing.  We wrote How to Make Shamrock Shakes.  Of course, some were convinced I added shamrocks (clean, of course) to the recipe.

Happy St. Paddy's Day!!
